By Tzuri Dar, The Marker, 24 March 2003

Israeli start-ups, Business Layers, Bigband Networks, Schema, and Active Cool are among 25 companies considered likely to go public, on a list expected to be published soon by Venture Reporter magazine, The Marker has discovered.

Venture Reporter Award

Venture Reporter Magazine tested the market and built a profile of technology start-ups worldwide most likely to go public in the near future. Companies were selected on the basis of their ability to meet business goals and achieve significant short-term growth.

Other companies listed were: Advancis Pharmaceutical, Arbortext, Counterpane Internet Security, Freightquote.com, Galapagos Genomics, Health Language, iBiquity, Kadiri, Megisto Systems, Micromed Technology, Mimeo, Netgear, Prometheus Laboratories, Redline Communications, SevenSpace, Smarte Solutions, Surebridge, Sylantro Systems, Targacept, Valere Power, and Vocus.

Active Cool's place on the list is a surprise, as it is a small company that has yet to achieve significant financing and sales. It seems that Venture Reporter magazine anticipates a bright future for Active Cool, and places it before more established technology start-ups in Israel, alongside Schema, Business Layers, and Bigband.

Active Cool, which was founded in 2000, has developed an active cooler for computer processors manufactured by Intel and AMD-including future speeds of up to 4.2 GHz. The technology provides a solution to the problem of heat and noise produced by processors. The technology is based on thermo-electric components controlled by a PCI card, which supplies the required power and includes a microprocessor.
